about
Bonus track (previously cassette only) from Schoënblintsjia.
Unpeach the Peaches” was produced for and originally performed on Daniel Klag’s Newtown Radio show, “Dense Liquid,” on September 23, 2018.
The piece, which takes its name from a quote in Annie Dillard’s “The Pilgrim at Tinker Creek,” uses a field recording of my commute as its central narrative. The field recording is side chained to a number of parameters on the pre-composed, MIDI programmed elements of the piece, emphasizing the incidents and accidents of our daily routines.
The performed element of the piece is the use of a MIDI controller to manipulate the sends of the various audio sources to different reverb environments; an attempt to reflect the thread of subjectivity that filters the experience of the commute. These manipulations were improvised in real time. This recorded rendition uses a different field recording than the one used in the broadcast performance on “Dense Liquid.”
